    2. Focus Where did the breeds of dairy cows come from? What might have happened if the dairy cow would have never entered the United States? Did the milkman come to your home and deliver milk this morning?

    3. Holstein Originated in Europe. Brought to the U.S. by Dutch settlers. Highest milk production in volume of all the dairy breeds. Dominate breed in the U.S.

    4. Ayrshire Originated in Scotland. Known for vigor and efficiency of milk production. Noted for udder quality.

    5. Brown Swiss Originated in the rugged Alps of Switzerland. Known for being hearty and rugged. Have superior feet and legs. Very quite and docile.

    6. Guernsey Originated near the English Channel 30 miles from the coast of France. Known to be hearty and adaptable. Known for a yellowish color of milk.

    7. Jersey Originated on the Island of Jersey, 15 miles from the coast of France. Known to produce more butterfat in milk than other dairy breeds.

    8. Milking Shorthorn Originated in England. Known to be hardy. Known to have a wide range of adaptation. Good milkers.

    10. Milk Bottle History First glass milk jar was patented in 1878 by George H. Lester. 1878 Alexander Campbell had a more workable design. 1880 the Warren milk bottle was patented.

    12. Paper Milk Bottles 1907- A plain paper cylinder was submersed in hot paraffin wax to water-proof the container. In 1929 the Sealcone carton was introduced. This carton saved money that would have been used to replace broken milk bottles.

    13. Plastic Milk Containers Became available around 1964. This changed packaging of milk forever. Plastic and paper containers are still used today.

    14. Home Milk Delivery Home delivery of milk started near the end of the 18th century Home delivery was once a man carrying milk through the streets. In 1830 the milk man came to your home.

    15. Milk Delivery Today Today a truck driver picks-up milk from the dairy. Milk is then taken directly to a processing plant. Once the milk is in containers or in a processed form, a truck takes it to the store.

    16. Purchasing Milk Today Today we venture to the grocery store to buy milk. Milk can also be purchased at convenience stores.
