There may be a different set of rules by the landlords' associations. You will have to give your pet the needed vaccinations and medications before the move. Most of your questions pertaining to this can be answered by your animal control authorities in your area. 2. Step two, visit your vet This is not only in the interest of the safe move of your pets but also mandatory by some state rules. In case your pet does not like traveling, your vet will be able to suggest techniques and prescribe medication for calming your pet down. Some vets may also suggest getting a pets' identification microchip. The purpose of this is to reunite the pet with the owner.

  4. 3. Step three, search for a new vet where you are moving to It is important to find a new vet in the locality to where you are moving. It is possible that your pet may get sick during the trip and may need immediate medical attention. If that happens, you can rush him the new vet immediately. Besides this, you will need a vet in the long run where you will be staying in the future. It is possible that your current vet may have some friends or colleagues in the new area. 4. Step four, carry all the medical records of your pet with you Keeping all the medical history of your pet on hand is very important. In case of an emergency, you will need to show these to the emergency medical staff. You will also need to carry all the phone numbers of veterinary hospitals, both along the route and at your destination.

If the pet has an identification microchip, the new address and other details have to be put on it. You also need to carry a photo of your pet, in case it gets lost. 6. Step six, don't get worried and over excited about the move Too much unusual activity of packing and excitement can get your pet stressed. Remember that pets can smell the stress of the owners. Take the favorite pet toys along with them that will keep them busy during the move. There is no need to pack huge quantities of food for your pet. Just take enough snacks for the move. Overfeeding the pets may result in their getting sick. Remember to take their snacks, water, food bowls and basic medication for them.

Pets may get stressed out with the unusual activity of loading up your luggage on the day of your travel. Besides this, they may also come in your way while loading and get injured. You may also try putting them in a dog or cat daycare center if your neighbors or friends are not free to take care of them on that day. 8. Step eight, keep the company of your pet during the move Your pet will enjoy your company while moving. They will feel safe and secure when the owner is around. This will reduce the risk of your pet getting out of hand during the travel. However, this may not always be possible. If it is a long distance journey, you will have to entrust your pet to the movers. Make sure that they have all the needed information, documents, food and basic medicines with them.
