  1. Going Green with Prefabricated Homes Nicholas Crea

  2. Prefabricated Houses Prefabricated houses are: houses that are manufactured off-site in advance Usually in standard sections that can be easily shipped and assembled Popular trends include architectural designs inspired from postmodernism or futurist architecture

  3. Going Green Prefabricated houses are green because they reduce material waste and have low environmental effects at the job site. This is because they are built in an offsite factory.

  4. Going Green It is also common for prefabricated houses to make strong use of recycled materials such as metals, concrete, glass tiles. Also, due to the fact that they are fabricated in a controlled setting there is little to no wasted building materials.

  5. Going Green Some custom-built prefabricated homes encourage the notion the home should be nothing more and nothing less than what the inhabitants need. This use of less space and materials preserves natural resources and leaves the smallest of environmental footprints.

  6. Financial Benifits The prefab construction speed is faster than on-site construction since manufacturers build your house inside a factory and weather cannot cause delays.

  7. Financial Benifits There is little to no cost for wasted building materials exposed to wind, rain, snow and general rot at the building site since prefabricated houses are built in a climate-controlled factory.

  8. Financial Benifits Because a common trend in prefabricated home designs are to be more sustainable many prefabricated homes use far less energy than traditional homes cutting the costs of energy consumption and maintenance.

  9. Financial Benifits While in the on-site construction process the construction site must first be prepared for the construction for the actual building construction to begin prefabricated construction allows the construction to happen while the site is being prepared saving a lot of time which in turn saves a lot of money.

  10. Financial Benifits A general guide is that on-site constructed houses cost upwards of $150 per square foot while prefabricated housing prices will be about $90-$150 per square foot. (according to Modular Today)

  11. LVL The LVL is a beautiful prefabricated home about 25 x 60 feet and has approximately 1,453 square feet.  Included in the floor plan is an open living room, dining room, and kitchen, as well as three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and some closets. However, it is also green with its double insulated walls, high grade energy efficient windows, low-flow bathroom fixtures, and a green roof, just to name a few of its green features.

  12. Souler House The Sourer House is a 950-square-foot contemporary house covered with a grid-tied 3.6 kW array. The Kyocera PV system produces a surplus of energy during the spring, summer and fall and the surplus energy is used during the winter for heat and everything else. The near net-zero energy home is all-electric but helped by a high-efficiency wood stove in the living room which is able to maintain temperatures in the 70s in the winter
