Basic Definitions ….. • Telemedicine is a health care delivery method that uses high-speed telecommunications systems, computer technology, high definition cameras & peripherals to examine, diagnose, treat, and educate patients at a distance. • Telehealth is a broader scope of services that includes telemedicine, but also includes other services that can be provided remotely by using communication technologies.

  6. On August 20, 2010, Georgia Partnership for TeleHealth was awarded a grant from the Office for the Advancement of TeleHealth to become the Southeastern TeleHealth Resource Center. Goal: To offer technical assistance in order to advance TeleHealth in the Southeast: GA, FL, AL, SC.

  7. Georgia Partnership for TeleHealth History and Accomplishments Began in 2004 (WellPoint / BCBS-GA funded the GA Telemedicine Program x 3 yrs.) Foundation set…… 40 sites established / 8 clinical encounters GPT Formed in 2007 as a nonprofit. Became Georgia’s state-wide TeleHealth Network. Has Grown to include 250+ partners & 100,000+ encounters. One of the most comprehensive robust networks in the nation.

  8. Who are the TRCs? 1. Federally-designated thru the Department of Human Services’ Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) and OAT/ORHP. (established in 2006) 2. To be designated: Recipients were required to have extensive telehealth program implementation experience 3. Currently, 14 centers around the nation; each with different strengths & expertise.
