  2. Phase 1 ALT acquired 11.3 acre parcel in 2008 Parcel overlooks West End & Route 51 Phase 2 ALT has contract to acquire adjacent 19 acre parcel from private landowner Parcel will provide connectivity to other protected & public lands Grand View Scenic Byway Park

  3. Community Involvement • ALT is working with the Mount Washington Community Development Corporation (MWCDC) to purchase this tract of land • Others involved include: • City of Pittsburgh • Urban EcoStewards

  4. Benefits of urban green space Improved air and water quality Increased access to recreational trails & nature Scenic beauty & wildlife habitat Stormwater management Expand the Grand View Scenic Byway Park Manage sprawl Important green space needs to be protected to ensure that it continues to provide public benefits Encourage development where infrastructure and public services already exist Why Protect the Land?

Cost & Funding • Total Project Cost = $224,000 • Funding • ALT has pending grant proposals with PA DCNR and area foundations • Local Goal: 10% of project • Critical to meet state matching requirements • Demonstrates there is community support for the project Trails & springs occur in many locations on the property

  6. Goal by December 2010 • $22,400 (10% of project) • Fundraising efforts by local groups across Mt.Washington will be taking place over the next 10 to 12 months • Rare opportunity to protect 17 acres of urban forest • Help keep Pittsburgh and Mt.Washington Green!
