Institutional Strengths • The university’s faculty, staff and administrators are committed to excellence in the academic program and in services provided to students • Students are offered a distinctive undergraduateexperience, which includes broad opportunities for student/faculty scholarly collaboration, international experiences, service-learning and internships • The university’s campus facilities are attractive and well-maintained

Institutional Strengths • Technology support, research support and other teaching/learning support are models for regional public universities • Academic program reviews are thorough and provide useful information for curricular enhancements and program modifications • The university offers extensive programs and serviceswhich enhance student life, contribute to success and support economically disadvantaged students

Institutional Strengths • Shared governance of the university, including widespread student involvement in decision-making, is exemplary • The university enjoys broad-based community support among alumni and friends, which provides a strong base for community learning opportunities for students, membership on advisory and other boards, and annual giving • The private financial support for the university has grown and is a strong base for the planned capital campaign

Current Challenges Identified by the NCA Report • Improvement in funding for moving expenses, travel; going beyond traditional route to tenure, i.e. recognizing value of advising, etc. • Promoting quality of life in the Chippewa Valley as a recruitment tool • Proactive work with legislators with 01-03 biennial budget • Chippewa Valley Initiative – 1st time UW-Eau Claire has received support for a special program • Planning under way for 1st comprehensive fund-raising campaign Negative impact of declining state support on recruitment and retention issues

Goal 1: Enhance the quality of teaching, learning and personal development environment • Develop and market new and revised academic and unit program options which support our enrollment goals • Recruit and retain highly qualified faculty and academic staff and further diversify these populations • Recruit and retain highly qualified students and further diversify the student body • Optimize student services and personal development support • Develop a plan to guide the development of campus facility improvements

  25. Goal 2: Expand and enhance our regional services and impact • Increase the number of part-time, nontraditional undergraduate and graduate students • Increase collaborative efforts with other higher education institutions, K-12, business and regional development agencies
