  2. Making Connections • When you make connections, think about your thoughts and feelings as you read or view something. • Does this remind me of something that I have experienced before? Think

  3. Making Connections Think • When you think of our own experiences and knowledge, you are making a text to self connection. • I remember a time when I wanted to play on the basketball team. Unfortunately, I was a “bench warmer” because there were 5 other players that were better than me and my coach wouldn’t put me in. I remember feeling frustrated when I would do something good in practice but it really didn’t make a difference.

  4. Making Connections • When you make connections, think about other things you may have read before. • Where there any books or stories that came to mind as I was reading this selection? Perhaps a story that I heard years ago. Think

Making Connections • When you think of the various books, stories, or poems that you have heard or personally read, your are making a text to text connection. • I remember reading the outsiders and how the “Socs” didn’t fit in with the “Greasers”. There was a turf war that resulted in the death of one of the “Socs”. I also remember that Ponnyboy and Johnny didn’t really fit in with the “greasers” either. They seemed to be more innocent and looking to be tough but they really weren’t. As a result, Ponnyboy and Johnny ran away together and really formed a friendship apart from the group. Think

  6. Making Connections • When you make connections, think of the world around you. • Have I heard about anything in the paper, on the news, in the hallways even that remind me of the text I am reading? Think

Making Connections Think • When you think of various events in society or around the world, you are making a text to world connection. • I remember hearing about an incident in Toronto when a girl wanted to go to a dance in a tuxedo and the principal said that she couldn’t. A lot of students complained that this was unfair but the principal would not change his mind. As a result, the students decided to organize a dance at a different location so that all people could come. That seems to be the same as the story because it has a connection to fitting in.

  8. Making Connections • As you read “I’m Not My Brother, I’m Me” choose a minimum of three lines that cause you to make either a text to self, text to text, or text to world connection.
