  3. Hyperbole Using exaggeration to make a point. Alex is so dumb his brain is a size of the pea.

  4. Onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia-Sound word. Ex- The bomb went boom when it hit the ground.

  5. Alliteration Repetition of a beginning sound. Ex-Alex is as hairy as an ape.

  6. Personification Giving human qualities to something not human. Ex. The leaves danced to the ground.

  7. Idiom Idiom-A well known expression that does not mean what it say. Ex. Her little brother is as sick as a dog.

  8. Practice Problems • I had a ton of homework. • She is as loud as a lion. • It rained cats and dog. • The clock went tick-tock. • The bear ate berries at the beach by his brother. • The branches waved at us. • He had to pick up his ears.
