  1. Presentation on Establishment of IT Blocks in Higher Secondary Institutions in Gilgit-Baltistan Reference to Prim Minister Directives regarding setting up IT Blocks vide Letter No.5-18/2003-IT dated 7th March,2011.

  2. Background In Gilgit-Baltistan IT development is in embryonic stage because of its remoteness and natural barriers. A few People and a few organizations have limited access to IT and internet facility. In changing context of the faster growing regime of IT, the students of Gilgit-Baltistan are unfortunately not benefiting from IT because of the lack of funds and access to IT based learning opportunities despite policy provision by the government in IT policy. There is a growing need being felt by the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in general and students and teaching community in particular about introducing and extending the IT facility in GB. The GB Education Department as the fastest growing organization in Gilgit Baltistan can benefit from this project in improving performances and efficiencies not only on individual level but also at institutional and organizational levels.

  3. What are the physical requirements associated with developing IT Blocks? Educational Institutions in GB. In Gilgit-Baltistan the major education provider is Government Education Department having 1008 FG regular schools out of which 150 High schools with 115531 enrolment and 4690 teachers, 17 Colleges with 6233 students & 200 teaching staff and 01 University. There are 540 Community Schools with an enrolment of 33025 constructed under SAP program is also working under the supervision of the department and NEF. Under the National Education Foundation (NEF) 172 community base schools having an enrolment of 7490 are also departing education to the children of the area. However private sector is also playing pivotal role with 540 Schools with an enrolment of 56730 and 3328 teachers; 41 colleges with 3843 students and one Professional Development Center (PDCN) run under the supervision of Aga Khan University Karachi.

  4. What are the physical requirements associated with developing IT Blocks? • In the Action plan of National Education Policy 2009 it has been mentioned that schools shall be made more attractive for retaining the children by providing an attractive learning environment, basic missing facilities and other measures. • To address the requirements of the Department it is necessary to focus on provision of adequate resources to provide infrastructure including laboratories and scientific equipment. Realizing the importance of laboratory facilities in high schools, the cost of has been calculated for 57 Science Labs and 86 computer Labs. To provide the above mentioned basic facilities for 57 science Labs and 86computer Labs in High schools an amount of 598.830 million will be involved.

  5. What facilities are already available in your University /College/ Institution/ Setup? • Total 93 Science labs and 64 Computer Labs and 29 IT Labs in Colleges has already been established through IT project and regular ADP to provide conducive learning environment.

  6. What cost would be associated with setting UP the IT Blocks under Program ? A- Summary of Capital Costs

  7. In what timeframe this program can be completed? The project will be completed with in 3year

  8. what recurring cost would be required for sustainability of the Program • 93.550 million recurring cost is required after completion of the project.
