  4. Course: Prerequisite: Interior Design I Semester: 2nd 2008 -2009 Class location (Campus): Gaza, Studio

  5. Course Description: • The interior designprofession demands knowledge of materials and finishes available, specification and installation requirements, artistic component and application of the principles and elements of design, must also be considered in performance with material selection, space planning, and lighting design).

  6. This course presentInvestigation of material components used by the designer matching with a public and social centres (recreations and tourism centers, restaurants, hotels, clinics, hospitals, institutions buildings), industrial and commercial centers (factories, markets, shopping centers, stores) and other services centers (culture centers, theatres, clubs, public gardens, airports and sea ports terminals, universities halls,) design portfolio project that includes specification of surface finishes, architectural details, furnishings, circulation, lighting, colors, acoustics, ethics and the relation in between and with external environment. .

  7. The semester is divided into two parts: The first part is the theoretical part which will presented in class lecture considering interior design related subjects. (guest lecturals are invited to present practical experience) the second part consists of the main interior design project and three sketch problems.

  8. Lectures will cover the following topics, • Methods and Materials of Interior Construction. • Office, Hospitality, and Healthcare, commercial interior Design • Interior Systems and Technical Requirements. • Furniture Design • Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditions • Plumbing • Electrical • Acoustics • Safety and Security • Communications

  9. Wood and Masonry • Ceramics, Glass, Metals, and Plastics • Walls and Ceilings • Floors and Stairways • Windows and Doors

  10. The course is designed to: • Help students to critique a variety of floor plans articulating advantages and disadvantages of various material components and surface finishes, space planning and economic considerations • and specify materials and finishes with consideration of environmental factors, professional design standards, application of the concept of form following function • and identify general technical requirements associated with, plumbing, electrical, acoustical, safety and security, and communication systems as applied to the buildings functions setting.

  11. To develop student ability to investigate surface finish and design options for walls, ceilings, floors, windows, and doors, estimate materials for each , and present information about specific materials that is informative and explanatory. • finally the advanced interior design course help students to completely and professionally present a design project that includes application of all concepts described above.

  12. Course Evaluation: Project grades are a reflection of the Process of developing a design proposal and the Products that describe the proposal. Both the process and the final products will be considered in the evaluation process.

  13. Course Materials: • This course has no text book • Deliverable • Essays • Handouts both in Arabic and English • Slide shows,,,

  14. Course work: Different interior design project are presented in this course. Each student will be subjected to one main project (Public centre, Commercial centre, Or Services Centre) The Students out product will be presented in full project Interior design work

  15. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS AND ACTIVITIES Methods and activities for instruction will include: A. Lecture/discussion B. Studio Activities C. Internet Research on Interior Design Products and Materials.

  16. Student grades are calculated according to their performance in the following work during the course : • Attendance 05% • Final Theoretical Exam 10% • Min. 3 Sketch problems 25% • Project Design 60% 100%

  17. Project design : 60% • Project development 40% • Preliminary jury (Mid term) 25% • Final jury ( Final ) 35% 100%

  18. Attendance Policy: Students are expected to stick to the university attendance policy, Class attendance is mandatory. Preparation for, and participation in, class discussions and reviews is expected---and a consideration in determining each student’s final grade.
