The meeting held in Cotonou, Benin, on September 13, 2006, highlighted the estimated worldwide production of raw cashew nuts, totaling 1,502,000 MT for 2006. Asia, with India, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Cambodia, accounted for 665,000 MT. In Africa, West Africa produced 438,000 MT across countries like Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, and Benin, while East Africa contributed 149,000 MT. This meeting emphasized the importance of production and processing regulations, especially noting India, Vietnam, and Brazil’s export bans on raw cashews.
