1. Cambridge-Hitachi Trainers’ Course Module 5 Working with video, screen recording and tele-conferencing

2. Objectives To enable teachers to • Manage video • Use input from web cams, document readers etc • Record flip charts for teaching and assessment

3. Requirements • Check the General Requirements presentation • Broadband connection if available • Trainer • speaker system (necessary)) • All items listed below for trainees • Trainees • Picture input device such as a web cam or document reader • Suitable digital video clips

4. Pointer pen and topic list • Show and explain the use of the pointer pen to annotate PowerPoint, screen shots from software, worksheets etc. without leaving lots of circles and highlighting • Show and explain the use of the topic list to change between different activities in full screen mode • Remind them of how to put the topic list sidebar widget onto the screen.

5. Digital video and topic list • Show import of video through File and Import • Explain the video controls, including screen capture • Explain the use of the topic list for navigation • Discuss the use of lesson videos – sports, plays, language orals etc • Allow them to experiment

6. Live input from webcams, document readers etc. • Show them how to achieve live input from webcams etc. using the Insert menu. Remind them to use the Topic list. • Show them the Starboard controls, particularly screen shots and explain that they are the same as the video input controls. • Discuss the uses and applications – showing experiments, demonstrations, text book pages etc to the whole class

7. Accessories - Screen recording • Explain that they will need to speak into the built in mike or use an external mike. • Explain that the recording is a WMV file and is saved to the Starboard folder of My Docs. • Give them a demonstration and then talk through uses • Student explaining a problem to others or explaining test corrections • Teacher explaining difficult concepts • Pupils missing an important lesson or lessons • Get them to use the feature and explain that the movie can either be watched through Windows Media Player or imported into Starboard

8. Tele-conferencing • Explain the principle – how it works and the equipment needed, take them through the set up and VOIP. Demonstrate if possible. • Explain that you can transfer flipchart work only so you can’t show another piece of software or video running in real time but you can show captured screens • Discuss uses with them and let them experiment if there is internet connection

9. Insert a flash file • Show them how to insert a flash file from the Gallery. • Let them experiment with the ones provided

10. Duo/Trio Board additional features • Go through the pen and finger configurations with them and how to tell which mode is active • Explain that anything can be used to write as long as it does not transfer paint to the board • Explain what each of the buttons on the side of the board does

11. Duo/Trio Board additional features • Show them the split screen and explain that it is only visible if a Duo/Trio board is attached to the computer. Show them switching between two and three users if using a Trio board • Show the Dual Pen • Show the double touch gestures – right click, eraser, scrolling, enlargement etc.

12. Questions and final exercise • Ask for questions – tell them to be honest. If they look embarrassed then get them to write the questions down • Ask them to make one example of a lesson starter or drawing, go round and look and they will ask questions as you get to their desk

13. Ending • Explain the structure of the course • Give them their certificates • Give them contact details for questions
