  2. What is ACUPUNCTURE ? Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points. Acupuncture is particularly useful in resolving physical problems related to tension and stress and emotional conditions.

  3. Conditions Recommended for Acupuncture by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.)

  4. Neurological and muscular disorders: headaches, facial tics, neck pain, rib neuritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, various forms of tendinitis, low back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis • Digestive disorders: gastritis and hyperacidity, spastic colon, constipation, diarrhea • Respiratory disorders: sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, recurrent chest infections • Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive problems • Disorders of the Mouth Cavity: toothache, pain after tooth extraction, gingivitis, pharyngitis

Acupuncture in Singapore • From 1st January 2002, only Registered Acupuncturists with valid practising certificates will be allowed to practise acupuncture in Singapore (regulated by MOH, TCM Practitioners Board) • A Registered Acupuncturist is required to pass the SARE (Singapore Acupuncturists Registration Examination) or STRE (Singapore TCM Physicians Registration Examination) set by Singapore TCM Practitioners Board • The holder of Graduate Diploma in Acupuncture is entitled to sit for Singapore Acupuncturists Registration Examination (SARE) • To obtain Graduate Diploma in Acupuncture (GDA) is required to complete GDA course

  8. GDA COURSE(Graduate Diploma in Acupuncture) The GDA course is opened only for Singaporeregistered Medical Doctors & Dentists (either fully or conditional registration with the Singapore Medical Council) who are keen to study and practice acupuncture in Singapore

  9. GDA COURSE Information COURSEINTRODUCTION • 2-year part time course designed to provide primary care physicians with skill in the practice of acupuncture • The course (theory part) is conducted every weekend (Sat or Sun or both)

  10. GDA COURSE Information Type Qualification • Certificate Graduate Diploma in Acupuncture to be conferred on the Student upon successful completion of the Course • The Certificate is Conferred by Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine

  11. GDA COURSE Information Medium of Instruction: • English (theory & Clinical) • English/Chinese with the visiting professors from China during clinical sessions (if any)

  12. GDA COURSE Information COURSE STRUCTURE The course structure set in accordance to the guideline by the TCM Practitioners Board and divided into 3 modules, 405 course hours

  14. Tentative Commencement Date1st Module • Sep ~ Nov 2009 & Jan ~ Apr 2010 every Sunday (1pm ~6pm) • 125 course hours in Theory

  15. Tentative Schedule2nd & 3rd Module • 2nd Module July 2010~Nov 2010 Theory (100 Hr): every Sun (1pm ~6pm) Clinical Practice (50 Hr): Mon to Sat evening • 3rd Module Jan 2011 ~ May 2011 Theory (80 Hr): every Sun afternoon Clinical Practice (50Hr): Mon to Sat evening

  16. Clinical Practice • Available from Mon to Sat 7pm~9.30pm • Location: Chung Hua Medical Institution 640 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh S(319522) • 50 course hours = 15 nights could be selected from Mon to Sat within a specified period

GDA COURSE Information ENTRY REQUIREMENTS • Applicants seeking for admission to the course must be a General Practitioner/Dentist who has a first medical/dental degree with a minimum of 2 years postgraduate experience • Applicants must be currently registered (either fully or conditional registration) with the Singapore Medical Council or Singapore Dental Council

GDA COURSE Information Course FEE Tuition Fee • 1st Module : $2000 • 2nd Module: $3000 • 3rd Module: $3000 Other Fee • Enrollment Fee: $20 • Registration Fee: $50 • Miscellaneous Fee: $150 • Graduate Examination Fee: $250 • Supplementary Examination Fee: $250 • Audit Fee for Revision: $1200.00 (candidate who has failed for the graduate examination, is allowed to re-take the course and attempt for the next graduate exam)

  19. GDA COURSE Information Payment • Payment is made by 3 modules within a month before the commencement of each module • Payable toSINGAPORE COLLEGE OF TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE

GDA COURSE Information Course Regulations • ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT To attain minimum 70% of the attendance for each theory and clinical practice, failing which will be debarred from taking the Graduate Examination • Discipline Student is required to maintain good conduct during the course. Any report for misconduct will be handled by the college disciplinary committee

  21. GDA COURSE Information Course Regulations • GRADUATE EXAMINATION • Student is entitled for the graduate examination upon completion of the GDA course with minimum 70% attendance • Diploma in Acupuncture will be conferred by Singapore College of Traditional Chinese medicine if the student has passed the examination with the record of good conduct during the period of study • The score mark for Pass Grade is 60 • Supplementary Exam is allowed for one attempt only • If the Supplementary Exam is failed, could apply to re-take for the next Graduate Examination • Singapore Acupuncturists Registration Examination (SARE) • Graduate with Diploma in Acupuncture is eligible to sit for Singapore Acupuncturist Registration Examination (SARE) for the practice in Acupuncture

  22. Enrollment for 2009 GDA • Minimum 25 students is required for the commencement of 2009 GDA course

  23. S A R E(Singapore Acupuncturist Registration Examination) The yearly common Acupuncturist Examination conducts by theSingapore TCM Practitioners Board, Ministry of Health

  24. Registered Acupuncturist Applicant is required to pass the SARE for : • Acupuncturist Registration Certificate • Singapore Acupuncturist Practicing Certificate Both certificates will be issued by Singapore TCM Practitioners Board

  25. IMPORTANT • Applicants will remain registered Acupuncturist as long as they remain as registered medical/dental practitioners • Upon deregistered as medical/dental practitioner, the registration as acupuncturist will be revoked
