  9. War of 1812 • Proved the US could defend itself • US gained respect as an independent country • Started because of impressment • Most important battle was at New Orleans after the war was over.

  14. Pinckney’s Treaty • Settled the border dispute between US and Spain • US gets right of deposit in New Orleans
