1. TNT Special services TNT Express was a company specializing in express delivery of documents, parcels and palletized freight, headquartered in Hoofddorp , the Netherlands. In March 2012, UPS completed a takeover bid for all shares of TNT Express, but failed in the face of European competition authorities. The group recorded sales of more than 6.69 billion euros in 2013. Since May 2016, TNT Express is owned by FedEx. TNT Company is located in 61 countries, and delivers one million deliveries worldwide every day. TNT was first prepared in 1863 by German chemist Julius Wilbrand and originally used as a yellow dye. Its potential as an explosive was not recognized for several years, mainly because it was so difficult to detonate and because it was less powerful than alternatives. Its explosive properties were first discovered by another German chemist, Carl Häussermann, in 1891. TNT can be safely poured when liquid into shell cases, and is so insensitive that it was exempted from the UK's Explosives Act 1875 and was not considered an explosive for the purposes of manufacture and storage.
