  2. Photon calibrations in the CN’s • Brief history of photon calibration in MC • v1.63x: “official” calibration • v1.63x+GamCal_1: “new” calibration • min(-4% or -250 MeV) everywhere in the detector • >v1.645: “very new” calibration • barrel: min(-4% or 250 MeV) • overlap: -10% between 0-1.5 GeV -250 MeV above 6.25 GeV linear combination of -150 MeV and -250 MeV between 1.5 GeV and 6.25 GeV • endcap: -8% between 0-1.5 GeV -250 MeV above 6.25 GeV linear combination of -120 MeV and -250 MeV between 1.5 GeV and 6.25 GeV • Additional correction in overlap and endcap justified by mumugamma and pi0 plots. • correction shape is quite arbitrary W meeting - Photon calibration - A. 11. Prepare alternative calibration for systematic studies Proposal (endcap and overlap) “new” as alternative to “very new” correct more low momentum photon correct less low momentum photon What about barrel ? increase correction for low momentum photon ? overall change by 1-2% ? This is a ill-defined task because of: the way the “nominal” photon calibration has been determined is not that rigorous I don’t know how to translate photon calibration changes into W mass shifts without doing the full analysis. under investigation looking at jet energy non-linearity Code is ready Alternative calibrations: systematic studies W meeting - Photon calibration - A. 20. Full simulation (+reduced noise) quite well established procedures photon and electron estimator calibration to be revised MC statistics can be improved: waiting for new noise inputs HCAL HCAL only old calorimeter shaking (PHCO) inputs to be checked type5/9 recalibration (eflow) urgent to check if the effect is large Jet corrections no need for special ntuples used to be the effect of the JC stat error we can fit MC corrected with one set of JC using MC reference corrected with another set of JC (mean vs fit ?) Single stack threshold nothing done yet, to be investigated Tracking systematics v1.63x momentum and azimuth (data-MC) polar angle: ~1 mrad (guessed) with or without PCOR (TrkShk_0 or _1) TPC hit killing (TrkShk_2) new proposal momentum and azimuth (data-MC) new binning of the distortions ?? polar angle ~0.2 mrad (better guess ?) with PCOR (as in real data: distortions +corrections) TPC hit killing track killing (from Paolo Azzurri) (affects jet polar angle) (data-MC) additional track smearing (momentum and direction): code to be prepared Pending nothing available for the lepton momentum which is not charge asymmetric do we want to split this shaking in more than one set of ntuples ? Other special ntuples for systematic W meeting - Photon calibration - A. Venturi

  21. Once MC events are “shaken” residual discrepancies are looked for: jet energy and direction resolution apply additional smearings at ntuple level jet direction “rob”’s functions after cleaning and with full sim jet boost ... Additional checks W meeting - Photon calibration - A. Venturi
