General Information • Breakfast in classroom 9:15-9:30 • School day 9:30-3:50 (doors open at 9:15) • General daily schedule • Inform office of any changes in students’ arrival or dismissal mode of transportation • Birthdays- Students may share a store bought nut-free treat during lunch time. Parents must be here to distribute during the last ten minutes of lunch: 12:30-12:40.

  7. Spelling • Words Their Way Spelling Program • Focus on spelling patterns • Approximately 20 words • One week cycle • High Frequency Words/ Word Wall

  8. Writing • Daily guided writing groups • Writing: Narrative, Opinion, Informative/Explanatory (different times through year) • Apply spelling patterns used in writing

  9. P.B.I.S.Positive Behavior Management Strategies • ROARS Expectations • Traffic light behavior management system • Lions Paws/Behavior Coupons • Positive Referrals

Grading and Reporting Academic • ES- Exceptional at the Grade Level Standard • P - Meets the grade level standard by demonstrating proficiency of the content or processes for the measurement topic • I - In progress toward meeting the grade level standard. • N - Not yet making progress toward meeting the standard Learning skills • DEM- Demonstrating • PRG- Progressing • N- Not Yet evident

Homework • Homework includes: • Math Basic Fact Practice • Reading “Just Right” books every night and completing the Reading Log • Reading Logs are checked every week and collected every 2 weeks REMINDER: Please encourage independence while children complete their homework. Provide support only when needed to avoid frustration.

  13. Math Homework • Development of mathematical fluency • Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. • By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers. • Homework may come in the form of: • Games • Math problems or tasks • Math practice

Reading Homework The goal is to read many books and for longer periods of time. • Read for at least 20 minutes a day • Read text at the independent level • Read text of different genre including: • Fiction (chapter books and picture books) • Informational text • Graphic novels • Magazines Locating books at the independent level: http://www.scholastic.com/bookwizard/ (Handout)
