  2. INTRODUCTION Nowadays one of the most dangerous diseases is the injury.

  3. DEATH CAUSES deaths per 100 000 inhabitant age (years)

  4. BACKGROUND The pregnancy doesn’t increase the danger but despite of this the motor vehicle accidents are the leading causes of death in the time of pregnancy also.

  5. PREGNANCY 6-7% INJURY 50% MVC 0.4% MATERNAL DEATH 1-3% FETAL DEATH

  6. MATERNAL DEATHFETAL LOSS

  7. SURVIVAL If the mother die in the accident the fetus can survive it only in exceptional case, only if the conditions of the postmortemCesarean section are given, may be at the scene.

  8. PREGNANCY INJURY PREVENTION

  9. PASSIVE SECURITY Elements of the passive securityare the seat beltand the air bag. These safety devices are destined for decrease the severity of the trauma and the fetal and maternal mortality.

  10. FATAL OUTCOME

  11. METHODS Our workgroup made an investigation about the seatbelt usage habits of pregnant women.

  12. RESEARCH The development of new restraint systems is a co-operative work of physicians and technical professionals. In 2002 started an experiment in Sweden with a pregnant crash dummy.

  13. CAUSES OF FETAL DEATH MATERNAL DEATH SEVERE INJURY OF THE MOTHER ABDOMINAL INJURY HEMORRHAGIC SHOCK HYPOXIA UTERO-PLACENTAL DAMAGE FETAL INJURY

  14. CHANCES OF SURVIVAL If the injury is happened the adequate special emergency supply and the first traumatology supply are determinant. In this view the chances of the injured patients are not the same in every place in Hungary. To build up the whole emergency and traumatology network takes years and it is very expensive.

  16. DISCUSSION By the data of the literature and by our investigations we think at the field of the prevention the adequate education and information are the most important and promptly realizable. The costs of this work would be recovered soon and the benefit would be measurable by the growing number of the fetal and maternal survivors.
