  2. Great Britain • Great Britain is an island situated to the northwest of Continental Europe. • It is the ninth largest island in the world, and the largest European island. With a population of about 59.6 million people in mid-2008.

  3. Great Britain Great Britain is surrounded by over 1000 smaller islands and islets. • Sometimes people use the shorten name Britain instead of Great Britain, to mean the same thing, but really Britain only refers to England and Wales.

  4. France • Climate-generally cool winters and mild summers, but mild winters and hot summers along the Mediterranean; occasional strong, cold, dry, north-to-northwesterly wind known as mistral • CITIES-Three popular cities of France are Paris, Avignon, and Bordeaux.
