Nonprofit Board Fellow Overview Vision To be the experiential leadership development program at Wharton that educates MBA students on nonprofit board governance Mission To develop MBA students as leaders who seek a life-long commitment to community involvement and board service, resulting in value creation for nonprofit organizations and communities

NBF Coordinator Role Be a peer leader for the next two years in a leadership role that requires flexibility/adaptability, emotional intelligence, personal investment, and management capabilities Engage with the coordinator team to shape program through recruitment, selection, and development of Board Fellow community Mentor 10 Board Fellows through monthly pod and one-on-one meetings – e.g., managing board conflicts, role discussions, etc.

Coordinator vs. Board Fellow Roles • Board Fellow Role • No prior board experience • 1-year commitment • Engage with a local nonprofit board as non-voting member • Develop relationships within your nonprofit, pod, and BF community • Participate in trainings, speaker events, and case discussions with Board Fellow community Coordinator Role Previous board experience or significant board exposure 2-year commitment Lead and mentor 10-member Board Fellow pod Build the BF community and develop relationships with coordinator team and pod Lead trainings (i.e., 2 full-day trainings and monthly mastermind meetings) for Board Fellows

Coordinator Timeline Fall 2014: Coordinator kick-off, training, and planning for spring recruitment April 2015: Training and onboarding of new Board Fellows Aug 2015 Onwards: Monthly pod meetings, one-on-ones with coordinators, and monthly Mastermind meetings Jan - Mar 2015: Recruitment and selection of new Board Fellows

Key Benefits of the Coordinator Role Individualized support from the Leadership Program Office Leadership assessments and extensive executive coaching (beyond coaching program available to all first-years) Peer leadership experience Training and workshops in governance, nonprofit management, fundraising, and group dynamics Member of an intricate student team for two years

You Should Apply to be a Coordinator if… You are a first-year student – students not on campus for full 2 years are not eligible You have previously served on a board or have nonprofit experience with significant board exposure You want to develop your own leadership skills You want to promote nonprofit involvement at Wharton You are looking for a leadership position that provides the opportunity to shape a social impact initiative at Wharton

  9. Coordinator Application Resume Personal Statement (1500 words in total) Why you are interested in this particular peer leadership position? What makes you a good fit for the position? If someone you know is joining a board, what would help them prepare for the role and why?

  10. Key Dates Information Sessions: September 29 @ 4:30pm (F92) September 30 @ noon (F92) Application due Friday, October 10, at 11:59 pm Submit through applicant stack Interviews will be held October 20, 21 and 22 Decisions will be announced the following week
