A Short Bio... • Born April 22, 1943 in South River, New Jersey • Started by writing romance novels under the pen name Steffie Hall • She researched for mystery novels by hanging out with cops, learning how to shoot, and practicing cussing • Best known for her Stephanie Plum mystery novels of which there are 18

Was the first in her family to attend college - She studied art at Douglass College • Grew up in New Jersey, but now lives in New Hanpshire • Her favorite exercise is shopping, and her favorite drug is Cheese Doodles • She motivates herself by spending all her money before she makes it • She wants to be like Grandma Mazur (one of her most beloved characters) when she grows up

The Numbers Novels • Stephanie Plum is Janet’s main character in her Numbers series • Stephanie is a “barely competent” bounty hunter from New Jersey • Stephanie Plum is not based on Janet Evanovich, but they are very similar and share many commonalities • All the novels in the series have been on the New York Times bestseller list

  6. Janet’s first Stephanie Plum novel, One for the Money, has been turned into a major motion picture starring Katehrine Heigl. It is scheduled to be released in January 2012.

  7. Inspirations... • The Stephanie Plum novels are intentionally written like a TV sitcom, and the show Seinfeld was a big inspiration for Janet. • Stephanie Plum would be the central character, and all the other quirky characters would revolve around her.
