  6. Know What You Know • Know & Organize the Facts! • Who’s involved: family • Why incapacitated: who/how determined • Documents: wishes of incapacitated person (financial & medical) • Estate issues: assets, liabilities, income and expenses • Jurisdiction

  7. Don’t Know What You Don’t Know • Know Your Resources: Get informed! • Jurisdiction laws, regulations and rules • Local/state/federal elder protection organizations • Attorney • Experts: financial, real estate, business valuations • AAAPG • Build Your Team: you cannot do it alone • Family • Resources listed above • Support from other’s with similar experiences • Law Enforcement when appropriate

  8. Know What You Don’t Know • Know Actionable Items! Act on them! • Get organized and involved • Listen without argument or personal agenda • Take action to obtain understanding and gather needed info • Do what is necessary and productive • Make what you don’t know known to team

Don’t Know What You Think You Know • No Credibility: Why cases fail • Not understanding the facts, laws, process • Emotional reactions and distractions • Unreasonable assumptions • Impatience, rude, demanding • Not having an educated and engaged team (failure to assemble and pay for right team) • Not being efficient with your or other’s time • Losing focus: overwhelmed, all consuming, loss of living your life doesn’t help.
