Your ELLs • Students in your class that will be participating in TELPAS • Students from whom you will be gathering writing samples • Students and their TELPAS scores from Spring 2010 • Our goal is to increase their level of English fluency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. • An increase in ability may, or may not show up in TELPAS. • Example: Lily can do 2nd grade TEKS with ELL strategies, so at the end of 2nd grade, she is given an Advanced rating in TELPAS. In third grade, Lily is learning new TEKS. Her English ability has grown, however she continues to need ELL strategies for these new TEKS. Her TELPAS rating may still be Advanced. • We hope we will not see a decrease in TELPAS ratings.

  3. Our WW Timetable • Feb. 1 – Teachers may begin gathering writing samples • Feb. 14 – TELPAS rater/verifier meeting at Admin. (Rejcek, Freedman & Clarkson sign OATHS.) • Feb. 15 – WW TELPAS meeting. • Mar. 4 – Bring any writing samples to IT meeting… because……. • Spring Break March 5 – 13 • and…….

  4. Our WW Timetable (cont.) • Things get a little crazy after Spring Break • March 13 – TELPAS Window opens. Raters begin evaluating L, S, R & W. • March 16 & 17 – Practice TAKS Test. No ELL pull out. • March 22 – TELPAS READING TEST ELLs grades 2-4. (8:30 – whenever they get done) No ELL pull out. • March 24 – Turn in the rest of your TELPAS writing samples to Clarkson. • March 25 – Rejcek verifies writing samples K-4 • March 28 – 30 – Teachers schedule meetings with Clarkson to discuss student ratings. • March 31 – Clarkson takes writing samples to Admin. to meet with raters across district.
