  1. “The Man of steel”

  2. Almost a century ago, in a country far far away, years of unrest and dissatisfaction towards Russia’s army and government accumulated into a series of events that would take place in 1917, overthrowing the old government and installing a line of communist rulers who’s system of government has stood till today.

  3. A Russian city destroyed in WW1 The War Begins When Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914, and Europe was launched into World War I, Serbia begging for help from the immense country of Russia, Tsar Nicholas II took the opportunity to strike a mutual adversary.

  4. Aftermath • At the downfall of the old government, Lenin came to power, and after years of reforms and change, at his death in 1924, there was a power struggle between Stalin and Trotsky, that eventually, Stalin would win

  5. Once Stalin gained power in Russia, he aimed to industrialize the then backwards Russia. In 1928 he proposed the beginning of his “Five-year plans,” meant to jumpstart Russia's industry, transportation, and increase farm productivity.

  6. In 1934, out of fear that rival political leaders were plotting against him, Stalin began the great purge. At first he targeted the old activists, the Bolsheviks, then spread to army heroes and other celebrities of the day. And soon after the average citizen. Sending over 3 million to labor camps, and executing almost 800,000.

  7. From 1917-1939 the country split on foreign policy. Most communists wanted to bring about a worldwide revolution. Those who were more loyal to Russia than to the communist party sought to protect the nations security. Stalin encouraged colonies to rise against imperial powers, and through propaganda spoke against capitalism, but his worldwide revolution never came.
