Aim of the Baltic Transport Outlook study • The overall aim is to achieve better prerequisites for national long term infrastructure planning in the Baltic Sea region to make the region more accessible and competitive.

Core Network Methodology A BSR core network should be based on issues and criteria relevant for the BSR. Not only EU countries Economic disparities Long distances to the core of EU Thinly populated regions Important raw materials The Baltic Sea as an important maritime route Need for connections to neighbouring regions and countries
Core Network Methodology A BSR core network should: Enhance communication between BSR states and facilitate trade Improve cohesion in the region Improve mobility and accessibility Ensure integration of the transport system in the whole BSR Ensure efficient ties with neighbouring countries Facilitate sustainable transport solutions Be multi-modal and include terminals of trans-national importance Include non geographic attributes aiming at enhancing socio-economic efficiency and sustainability, e.g. Green corridors.
