  2. Academia’s Participation inKorea Industrial Standard Council (KISC) • KISC: The most authoritative entity in Korea for the establishment of KS • More than 40% of the KISC members are from Academia • Members in KISC actively participate in the international SDO

Academia’s Participationin Standard Reference Data Commission • 21 Data Centers, accredited by Ministry of Knowledge and Economy (MKE), are authorized to collect, produce, edit, and evaluate the standard reference data • 21 Technology Commissions, each ofwhich consists of 7 experts from industry, academia, and/or government sector, finally approve the official request from the data centers

  6. Establishment of SSS in Oct 2010(Society for Standards and Standardization) • Establishment: Oct 12th, 2010 • Objectives: SSS helps activate the research on standards and standardization, the interaction between academia and industry, standards organizations and the constructive communication among stakeholders to satisfy the demands for standards and standardization from country, companies, and consumer and to contribute to the development in quality of life.

Activities of SSS • Supports the research activities of members • Supports the presentation of and discussion about the research results • Publication of academic journal and periodicals • Alliance and collaboration with other domestic and foreign standard-related organizations • Advice, suggestion, and professional service to the government institutions and public organizations • Encouraging exchange of research results and information among members • Education and promotion of standard-related topics and classes • Other activities related to the objectives of SSS

Research institute follows. • Need active communication and collaboration between industry and academia/research institute • The first academic community for standard in Korea, Society for Standards and Standardization (SSS), was officially launched in October, 2010 • Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) and Korean Standard Association (KSA) sponsored and supported the launch of this academic community
