  2. Template Development Our philosophy, a system is a tool and should work for the company. Nextgen recommends tracking all changes via an Excel Spreadsheet. • This works if you keep your changes to less than 100. That’s total not per template. KBM upgrades (patches or version changes) require all changes to be reviewed and re-applied if still valid per template. • This is referred to as a gap analysis.

  3. Template Development – managing for a KBM upgrade. • Have a well defined change management process. • Triggers and SQL Stored Procedures support comments. USE THEM. • Nextgen does have a free tool that will compare templates and list the differences. • Nextgen has created a documented standard for template look and feel.

  4. Charge Capture • Eliminate Paper Charge Sheet • Have the system automatically identify charges based on information captured during the encounter • Track CPT usage and bill accordingly. • Quick communication to billing.

  5. Charge Capture

  6. Test Groups • Several times a day a provider will place the same group of orders. We wanted to reduce the number of clicks this required • Standardize the orders

  8. Schedulers • A screen needed for the POD schedulers to be able to review a patients orders, task key departments and provide check out information. • Schedulers have two monitors to allow them to have EHR and EPM up at the same time.

  16. Hold Medications • Needed an easy way for a provider to see what medication a patient was taking and generate a statement about what to hold and when. • Generate a digitally signed report for the final report.

  18. Standard Process for reporting Issues • Select and use a tool for tracking all issues and request. • Standardized process called ITIL utilized in many IT departments • A second person should test any change before moving to production. • You should always have a development, test and production environment.
