NaK-pump

NaK-pump. pump is open to the inside of cell. three Na+ ions arrive at inside surface. note three “spots” on the inner surface of the Na-K pump. ATP molecule arrives binds to Na-K pump gives energy to pump. ATP splits to ADP+P when it gives up its energy.

  1. NaK-pump pump is open to the inside of cell

  2. three Na+ ions arrive at inside surface. • note three “spots” on the inner surface of the Na-K pump

  3. ATP molecule arrives • binds to Na-K pump • gives energy to pump

  4. ATP splits to ADP+P when it gives up its energy

  5. energy from ATP --> ADP split causes pump to CHANGE SHAPE • this shape change “spits out” the three Na+ ions to the outside

  6. two K+ ions enter the outside of the changed protein

  7. two K+ ions are “spat in” to the inside of the cell

  8. The Na+K+ATP-ase pump Na+ outside cell inside cell

  9. NaK-pump cut-up
