Schedule • Tuesday, January 18 • Period 4 Final 8:00-9:30 • Period 5 Final  9:50-11:25 • Wednesday, January 19 • Period 6 Final 8:00-9:30 • Period 7 Final  9:50-11:25 • Thursday, January 20 • Period 1 Final 8:00-9:30 • Period 2 Final  9:50-11:25 • Friday, January 21 • Period 3 Final 8:00-9:30

  3. Reminders • You must be in uniform/dress code • Don’t be late • Use the restroom before and after the exam times • You will NOT be allowed to use the restroom DURING the testing times – even if you are done • If you do not have a final exam, you do not have to be at school • Do not linger in any of the buildings- it is a distraction to test takers

  4. The Day of the Exam • Bring to class: • TWO (2) #2 Pencils with NEW erasers • Not allowed at your DESK: • Cell phones • iPods, PSPs, MP3 players, etc. • If I see earbuds, I will take them • Backpacks, purses, etc. • Paper, note cards, books, etc. • Food, water bottles, drinks of any kind

  5. Before the Bell • When you enter the room, place any materials at the front of the room. • Cell phones must be turned OFF upon entering the room and placed in the white board marker tray. • Get your pencils and erasers and sit at your desk. • Sharpen your pencils if needed.

  6. When You Finish • Sit QUIETLY until the entire class is finished. • Talking WILL result in a referral for Academic Dishonesty • If you have study materials for another class you may retrieve them QUIETLY from your backpack, but leave your bag up front. • If you have nothing to work on, put your head down on your desk- do not look at other test takers.

  7. The Test • Sections: • Literature– 20 Questions • Grammar – 11 Questions • Literary Terms – 21 Questions • Quotes – 10 Questions • Writing – 22 Questions • Reading Comprehension – 6 Questions • Vocabulary in Context – 6 Questions • Ring of McAllister Vocabulary – 21 Questions • Reading/Analyzing Poetry– 8 Questions

  8. Question Types • Mostly multiple choice • True / False (a- true, b-false) • Matching

  9. Study Tips - Vocab • Create flash cards with just the word and definition • Try to use mnemonic devices to help you remember • Timorous = shy • “Timorous” sounds similar to “tremor”… and you shake when you’re nervous! • Study with others! Quiz each other! • Be sure to shuffle your flash cards from time to time, so you don’t get used to them in a particular order

  10. Study Tips – Lit Terms • Create flash cards for the terms and their definitions • Study with others! Quiz each other! • Associate the term to something we have read to help you remember • Be sure to shuffle your flash cards from time to time, so you don’t get used to them in a particular order

  11. Study Tips - Literature • Write detailed summaries of the works • Fact Challenge: • Get into pairs or groups • Set a time limit (1 minute, 2 minutes) • Select one of the works and write as many facts, details, etc. as you can in the allotted time • When time is up, compare facts

  12. Study Tips – Reading Comp • Read the questions before you read the passage • This will help you focus in on what you should be looking for • Remember to use contextual clues to infer meaning

  13. Final Reminders • Finals week can be very stressful • Budget your studying time so that you don’t get overwhelmed • Stay well-rested and well-fed all week • Discipline yourself to work hard and put in your maximum effort – the results will pay off! • Keep a positive attitude – remember, it’s just ONE week out of your life… not the end of the world!
