Demetri Kantzavelos is the auxiliary bishop of Mokissos of the Greek orthodox Metropolis of Chicago. He was named as “one of the twelve people to watch” by Chicago Sun-Times in January 5, 2003. From 1993 to 1995, he served as the president of the Illinois coalition to abolish the death penalty.

  2. Demetri Kantzavelos is the auxiliary bishop of Mokissos of the Greek orthodox Metropolis of Chicago. This includes parishes in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri and Iowa. The metropolis offices are located in Chicago, Illinois and consist of 58 parishes ministering the needs of about 250,000 Greek Orthodox faithful.

  3. Demetri Kantzavelos On January 5, 2003, he was named as “one of the twelve people to watch” by Chicago Sun-Times. He worked for the improvement of relations between Chicago’s Greek Orthodox Community with other local orthodox bodies, & Christian and non-Christian groups as well.

In 1987, Demetri Kantzavelos attended the Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts and obtained his graduation degree in divinity with high distinction. Afterwards, he completed his post-graduation doctoral work in philosophy program of Chicago’s Loyola University, while concentrating in the area of metaphysics.

  6. Demetri Kantzavelos is the son of Christos and Merope Kantzavelos. He served as an acolyte, while growing up in the “Assumption” Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago. In the year 1989, he was ordained to the diaconate. In 1992, he was ordained to the priesthood, and in 1995, he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite, by Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago. From 1993 to 1995, he served as the president of the Illinois coalition to abolish the death penalty.
