Goal = learn about VLSI design of complex digital systems • architecture exploration (from C/C++ to RTL) • layout exercise (from RTL to layout) • Method = DIY (do it yourself) • via a design project with hands-on • using A|RT designer and Magma tools • using documentation on the website ... • but encouraged to find more on the web • using prepared exercises … • but open to discuss your own proposals • cooperation is encouraged … • but exam is on an individual basis (written report + discussion) jvm

Step 1: Start the X-emulator ExceedStep 2: Right-click on the Exceed button in the task-bar (below)Click Tools -> Client Startup -> newStep 3: a window pops up (Xstart Client Startup Application)Click Help -> Wizard ...Step 4: (we now fill in the form using the wizard)Click nextType in host field: kameleon.ics.ele.tue.nlSelect in host type: HPClick nextEnsure that Xterm is slected as applicationThe parameters should be: -display @d&;(you can use more fancy parameters here to start up the window. I use: @(XTerm, method=stdappdb) -ls -sb -sl 1000 -rv -name kameleon -display @d&;Click nextFill in your user name and passoword(you can fill in this stuff to your likings)Check the box 'Create a shortcut.....')Click nextyour're done,Click cancel jvm

  6. Step 5 (A window has popped up with shortcuts)Drag the shortcut 'Xterm (kameleon.ics.ele.tue.nl)’ to your desktopStep 6 and beyondDouble click on your new icon. A window should appearthat is a xterm on kameleon.Step 2 - 6 are only needed once. Next time you start Exceed and double click the icon. jvm
