This year's field program in North Carolina includes approximately 4,500 yield trial plots across five locations—Sandhills, Plymouth, Lewiston, Caswell, and Clayton—yielding decent results. An additional 7,500 plots from Raleigh complement our research efforts. Collaborations involve five public and six private cooperator companies, including Syngenta and Pioneer, focusing on advanced generation families from GEM breeding crosses. Noteworthy germplasm includes new breeding crosses and recommended lines for 2009, with potential new sources crucial for future breeding efforts.

Field Program – Yield Trials • Six private company cooperators (Syngenta; Pioneer; Dekalb; Mycogen; Pannar; Hogenmeyer)
Germplasm in trials • S1’s of GEM Breeding crosses • S2’s of GEM Breeding crosses • Advanced generation families/lines from GEM breeding crosses • Breeding crosses per se • Potential new germplasm for breeding crosses (CMLs, TZIs)
Germplasm in future trials • S2’s of GEM breeding crosses • Advanced generation families from GEM breeding crosses • Breeding cross testcrosses • Potential new germplasm for breeding crosses: Landraces from LAMP, CIMMYT prebreedinggermplasm, HI inbreds
2009 GEM-Raleigh releases • Eleven recommended releases for 2009 from nine different breeding crosses • Two new sources (CML420 and NS1)
