  1. Welcome to Fourth Grade!!

  2. Thank you!! Thank you so much for coming tonight. Eanes Elementary is a wonderful place to learn and grow because of the collaborative effort of the parents, teachers, and students.

  3. Welcome and Introductions • Graduated from UT Austin (currently in grad school at UT for school counseling) • Two children: Eliana and Kyler • Sixth year at Eanes. • Ninthyear in education.

  7. Assignment Notebook • Objectives and homework are online each day. • Please check the website nightly.

  8. Conduct Card/ Thursday Folder • Reflects ‘Lend a Hand’ and areas needed for improvement. • School notices and class events. • Graded papers. • Sign weekly (Thursdays)

  9. NOTES • Please send a note with your child to school regarding transportation changes or notify the front office.

  10. Snacks • Healthy snacks- fruit, vegetables, crackers. • We are nut-free. Please do not send food with nuts in it.

  11. Calling All Volunteers!! • EEPTO (Eanes Elementary Parent Teacher Organization) and Classroom Sign Up Sheets are on the horseshoe table at the back of the room. Please look at these for volunteer opportunities.

  12. Field Trips • Fall Field Trips: Aquarena Springs • Spring Field Trips: Capitol & Visitors Center, Institute of Texan Cultures and Alamo • End of the Year Party: Commons Ford Ranch • Chaperones are needed for all field trips. If you are able to supervise a small group of children and stay with us ALL DAY, please consider volunteering to chaperone. • Please allow all parents to have the opportunity to chaperone field trips.

  14. P.B.I.S. Positive Behavior Intervention Systems • School wide behavioral expectations • Goal: Eanes Elementary students and staff will be respectful, accepting of one another, safe, responsible, and show integrity. • Dress Code • ‘Lend A Hand’

  15. Eanes Elementary also recognizes that: * Children make mistakes. * Mistakes can be good opportunities for learning if we allow our children to experience a consequence.

  16. 4th Grade Expectations

  17. 4th Grade Expectations • Students will always put their first and last name on every paper, as well as have a full heading on every paper turned in. • Students are responsible for using correct spelling across curriculum. • Students will write in complete sentences, beginning each sentence with a capital letter and ending with punctuation. • Students will know all multiplication, addition, and subtraction facts; division facts should be continuously worked on towards mastery. • Students will add and subtract whole numbers.

  18. 4th Grade Homework Policy • Homework is assigned nightly. • Students are often given class time to begin their HW. • The Eanes Elementary homework policy states that 4th graders should be receiving no more than 40 minutes of homework nightly. • Homework is considered late if it is not at school at the start of the day. Mon: Spelling Tues: Math Wed: LA Thurs: Math Fri: Have a Great Weekend!

Got Work? • Students are expected to turn late work in as soon as it is finished. • Students will receive 11 points off a major project if it is one day late, an additional 10 points the second day it is late, and a 50% after that. • All missing work is expected to be completed and turned in by the end of the grading period.

Tests All students will be allowed to retake a test for FULL credit (excludes spelling tests and district benchmarks). • Graded tests will go home on Thursdays. • If a student elects to retake a test, they must get the test signed by a parent and bring it back to school on Friday. • Test retakes will be during recess on Mondays.

  22. F.I.T. Focused Instruction Time • Pull out time for student services. • Classroom differentiation, independent study. • Fourth grade teachers will switch one day a week to focus instruction. • **This is not a time for students to catch up on homework.

  23. MATH • “Every Day Math” • Supplement textbook with manipulatives, games, and technology. • Homework: Tues. &Thurs. • Math Journal • Math Folder • “Show your work; check your work.” • STAAR Math Tuesday, April 22

Sciencewith Mrs. Hinkle • Scientific Process • Matter • Mixtures & Solutions • Force & Motion • Water & Weather • Light, Electrical, Heat Energy • Sun, Earth & Moon System • Weathering, Erosion, Deposition • Properties of Soil • Natural Resources & Conservation • Organisms & Environments The Science Notebook will be graded at the end of each grading period.

Reading • DEAR time • Reading Street • Literature circles allow for differentiation • Reading aloud to your child and reading with them will reinforce their love of books. • STAAR Reading Wednesday, April 23 Please note:Students should be reading 100 minutes each week. Every Friday a select group of students will have a book talk. Calendar is in class and on my website.

  26. Spelling • Students will be taught rules of spelling. • Pretest on Monday, test on Friday. • Tests will be in sentence dictation. • Spelling homework is assigned on Monday and due on Friday.

  27. Writing • Writing is a major focus in fourth grade. • Students will be introduced to models of good writing and given opportunities to practice. • Students will be taken through the writing process, from pre-writing brainstorming to a final product. Writing STAAR test is Tuesday, April 1 and Wednesday April 2.

  28. Writing (continued) Students’ writing will include using many different kinds of elaboration as well as humor! They will be encouraged to write in their own voice, to express their feelings, and to write from the heart!

  29. Social Studieswith Ms. Catalano • Geography of Texas • History of Texas • Texas Weekly Reader • The fourth grade Social Studiescurriculum is the history of TEXAS! How lucky we are to live in Austin where we have a multitude of places to visit and people to meet.

  30. Time For Kids • “Time For Kids” received weekly. • Reinforces Reading skills. • Discusses topics in Science and Social Studies.
