General Principles

1. General Principles • Recruiter- authorized staff members or a representative of the institution’s athletics interests (bylaw 13.02.9); • *Representative- an individual who is known by a member of the institution executive or administration to have promoted the institution athletic depart., made financial contributions, been requested to assist in the recruitment of PSA’s, provide benefits to PSA’s or their family, or have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution athletics department; • **Prospective Student Athlete (PSA)- a student who has started classes for the 9th grade; or a student who is not in the 9th but has been provided any financial assistance or benefit not provided to prospective students generally (bylaw13.02.9); • Recruiting- any solicitation of a PSA or to their relative by an athletic recruiter(bylaw 13.02.10); • ***Four year college prospective student athletes-do not contact unless permission is granted to do so from AD or athletics administrator designated to do so, or one SA has attended for one academic year (bylaw 13.1.1.2); *once identified as such the person will retain that identity indefinitely **individual is no longer a highs psa once the individual registers, enrolls, and attend a minimum full-time program (bylaw 13.02.9a); or the individual participates in a regular squad practice or competition (bylaw 13.02.9b) ***you will be considered a prospective student athlete if being recruited by an institution while attending another NCAA or NAIA four year college. NCAA recruiting rules will apply (bylaw 13.1.1.2)

2. General Principles • ALL student athletes must register with the clearinghouse at www.eligibilitycenter.org • ALL students athletes must take the ACT and/or SAT the highest score in each section will be combined to determine the test score; so for those that struggle, more test taking could equal better results. • ALL student athletes must know the minimum academic qualifications; • NCAA Division II requires 14 core courses. See the chart below for the breakdown of this 16 core-course. Please note, Division II will require 16 core courses beginning August 1, 2013.

3. Reaching Out • *Contact period- permissible to make in-person, off-campus contact and evaluation; • *Evaluation period- permissible to be involved in off-campus activities designed to assess academic and playing ability-no contact; • *Quiet period- permissible to make in-person contacts only on the member institution campus-not off-campus; • Dead Period- not permissible to make in-person contacts or evaluations on or off campus or permit official or unofficial visit. Staff member may write or telephone a PSA during this period though. Some provisions to these restrictions described in bylaw 13.7.2.5 and 13.1.9; • Telephone calls can’t be made before June 15th immediately preceding the PSA senior year no more than 1 per week from recruiter but unlimited from PSA (bylaw 13.1.3.1 & 13.1.3.2.2); • Number of contacts in-person off campus is three (bylaw 13.1.6); • Number of official visits is five and only one to any single institution (bylaw 13.6.1.2); • Number of unofficial visits is unlimited; • Need to retrieve NCAA ID number, TEST SCORE, put on Institutional Request List (IRL) before taking a visit on campus. Best to have it when deciding to start communication. *NCAA bylaw 30.11.4 states that there are no specified contact and evaluation periods in sports other than football & basketball except for the dead periods which apply to all sports (Nov and April)

4. Eligibility Certification Status Qualifier - Met ALL of the minimum requirement. Partial Qualifier- You will be considered a partial qualifier if you do not meet all of the academic requirements listed above but have graduated from high school and meet one of the following standards. Non-qualifier- did not graduate from high school or if you graduated and are missing both the core-course grade-point average or minimum number of core courses and the required ACT or SAT scores. University requirements- Know what the test scores and any other general admission requirements are. Division II has no sliding scale. The minimum core grade-point average is 2.000. The minimum SAT score is 820 (verbal and math sections only) and the minimum ACT sum score is 68. For more information regarding the rules, go to www.ncaa.org. 5. Offers Full- All fees pertaining to school are paid for (books, tuition, housing, meals). Partial- some fees paid for. *Grant and aid- total grant and aid is added to make up athletes package not to exceed total cost of tuition. Refund is usually not applicable unless loans are taking out. Walk-on- one who can earn aid. *depends on the wording of the grant and aid document

Does not meet NCAA, institutional, or conference eligibility requirements. One‐Year Absence -Signee does not enroll at an institution for at least one academic year and the scholarship (in its same amount) is no longer available. Service in the U.S. Armed Forces, Church Mission‐ Signee go and serve. Discontinued Sport‐ Sport is no longer offered, includes student‐athletes who are already enrolled. Recruiting Rules Violation.

7. Non-negotiable DIVISION II 14 Core-Course Rule 14 Core Courses: • 3 years of English. • 2 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher). • 2 years of natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high school). • 2 years of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science. • 2 years of social science. • 3 years of additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or nondoctrinal religion/philosophy). DIVISION II You may take the SAT or ACT more than one time and use your subscore form different test to meet the minimum requirement ACT-68 {Math, Science, English, Reading} SAT- 820 {Math, Verbal/Critical Reading} Put code 9999 when registering so that the score is reported to the Eligibility Center

8. Be Prepared • What is the cost of the registration fee? The registration fee is $65 for domestic college-bound student-athletes and $95 for international college-bound student-athletes. There is only one fee to register for the NCAA Eligibility Center, which covers both the academic and amateurism certifications. In addition, there is no reduction of the fee if the college-bound student-athlete does not need an academic certification (e.g., has already served an academic year in residence at a collegiate institution). • May I receive a fee waiver? Yes, you are eligible for a waiver of the initial-eligibility certification fee if you have already received a fee waiver (not a state voucher) for the ACT or SAT. If you have not been granted a fee waiver by ACT or SAT, then you will NOT be eligible for a waiver of the certification fee. If you are seeking a waiver of the certification fee, you should confirm your eligibility with your high school counselor. Your high school counselor MUST submit an electronic fee waiver confirmation before your registration may be processed.
