XIV Pan-American Sports Games Santo Domingo, 2003 The XIV Pan-American Sport Games Santo Domingo 2003 constituted the most important and major sport event in the history of sport in the Dominican Republic. Extraordinary media coverage, TV national and international broadcasting and an investment of US$300,000,000 dollars shared by the Dominican government and the private investment guaranteed the success of this historical event. An Olympic atmosphere was the feeling that all participants, and specially the Athletes, received during their stay in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A well-planned and organized Pan-American Villa was constructed with nothing less to be requested from the villa used in the past 2000 Olympics Games in Australia. Two (2) dinning rooms with a combine capacity of 1,200 Athletes and a modern transportation system with 300 air-conditioned buses assured before hand the success of this extraordinary intercontinental event that is held every four (4) years.

Within the construction of the sport infrastructure for the Pan-American games Volleyball and Beach Volleyball were among those that were beneficed. For Volleyball, a new Volleyball palace was constructed with a capacity of 7,000 seats. This modern sport facility, located next to our National Volleyball Training Center Pavilion meets all necessary requirements for a World Class Volleyball Event since during its planification all FIVB details included in our General Regulations were taken into consideration. Today the Dominican Republic National Volleyball Federation has a unique and modern volleyball complex, one of it kind, with nine indoor courts, two dinning rooms, two physical preparation rooms, eight changing rooms, medical rooms, press conference rooms, press working room, special VIP stands, press stand, VIS, Confederation and FIVB office as well as all necessary facilities to host a world wide level event.

4. XIV Pan-American Sports Games Santo Domingo, 2003 The competition schedule for volleyball was developed from August 3 to August 15 with a total of 40 matches. FIVB General Competition Regulations and Rules of the Games were strictly enforced. A convenient training schedule was developed with a double training section per day for all participating teams. Preliminary inquiry to all participating teams was performed according to FIVB General Regulations, as well as the General Technical Meeting. VIS System was implemented, Press Conference after every match was held with a daily release of NORCECA’s Newsletters throughout FIVB Website, NORCECA Website and every major local and international news agency. TV Broadcasting was live for every match having available the satellite signal transmitting to Canada, Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Brazil, Europe throughout Euro Sport, as well as in Asia. Volleyball registered the highest TV rating of the Pan-American Games, superior to the Opening and Closing Ceremony and to every other major event in the Dominican Republic only being surpassed by the 2003 Grammy Award of the Dominican Republic.

XIV Pan-American Sports Games Santo Domingo, 2003 The overall TV rating for volleyball was registered 11.70% and was been transmitted locally by 3 major TV channels, the highest TV rating registered during the Pan-American Games was for the final match between Dominican Republic and Cuba with a 27.4% obtaining a new record with the 2nd highest TV Broadcast in the history of the Dominican Republic. A total of 952,327 viewers were registered according to AD Dominican Advertising Marketing Media. During the period of the Pan-American Games, volleyball as a single sport registered the highest entry of fans. A total of 40 matches reported 153,720 fans for an average of 3,843 fans per match, registering 12,000 fans for the final gold medal match between Cuba and the Dominican Republic. On this occasion our National Volleyball Pavilion had to be equipped with 3 giants screens and the new constructed Volleyball Palace had an over capacity beyond 8,000 fans.

XIV Pan-American Sports Games Santo Domingo, 2003 The Beach Volleyball facilities were constructed at the Feria Ganadera in the city of Santo Domingo with an extraordinary view of the Caribbean Sea. This has been the first time that a Beach Volleyball event is held in this historical venue, thousands of fans from all over the city of Santo Domingo, enjoyed under a shiny hot sun the XIV Pan-American Games Beach Volleyball Competition from the 2 – 9 of August 2003, with a total of 64 matches been played during this period. The Beach Volleyball venue at the Feria Ganadera has a convenient capacity of 3,000 fans that were also delighted to cool down during the afternoon and night matches for which special lighting system was arranged in coordination with the host TV Broadcaster CBC from Canada. In addition to the main venue two Beach Volleyball warm up courts were constructed, as well as a convenient area for athletes with Jacuzzi, Shower and Changing Rooms. Massage, Medical, Recreational, Anti-doping, VIS, Control Committee and all necessary facilities according to FIVB General Regulation were in place.

XIV Pan-American Sports Games Santo Domingo, 2003 From the competition point of view for the first time in history and after long and demanding negotiations with the PASO Authorities, NORCECA was able to obtain the participation of 32 Men and Women Beach Volleyball Teams and 16 Men and Women National Volleyball Teams. For Volleyball in the Women’s Division, National Teams from Brazil, Cuba, USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Peru, Venezuela and Dominican Republic represented their Countries. In the Men’s Division National Teams from Brazil, Barbados, Canada, Cuba, USA, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic completed a total of 16 National Teams. In Beach Volleyball, Men and Women Division, teams from the Netherlands Antilles, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay and USA completed a total of 32 National Beach Volleyball Teams
