Job Evaluation Study Steps • Job Information Collected by March 10, 2012 using Position Description Questionnaire (e-PDQ) • Jobs Evaluated using Weighted Point Counts and Assigned Pay Ranges based on Points that will be Linked to Market Data • Questionnaire Collected by e-Mail using MS Excel Program

Who Should Complete the e-PDQ? • Completing the e-PDQ is the Responsibility of Supervisors • Collaborative Approach Between the Supervisor and Staff Member is Encouraged • Staff may also Collaborate Together if the Duties of Several Positions are Nearly Identical • Goal is to Provide the Most Complete and Accurate Information Possible • Timely Completion is Important • Deadline March 10, 2012

  9. Who Completes What Sections? Recommended Approach: • Supervisors are Responsible for Completing the e-PDQ • Staff Member May Assist Supervisors by Describing the Position: • Employee Information • Description of Regularly Performed Duties • Occasional Duties and Responsibilities • Supervisor Describes the Position Requirements (Qualifications) • Supervisor Completes Questions in Sections A through F • Supervisor Will Complete Entire e-PDQ if Position is Vacant or Staff Member is on Leave or Otherwise Unable to Assist. • If Supervisor is Not Available, the Next Higher Level of Supervision Should Complete the e-PDQ. • The e-PDQ Must be Approved by the Supervisor Before it is Submitted

Tips for Writing the Position Description Section • Use English Only • Use Precise Wording • List Responsibilities by Order of Importance • Estimate Percent of Time • Avoid Over Generalizations • Describe Existing Responsibilities and Tasks • Avoid Subjective Terms • Write for the Uninformed Reader

Position Requirements Completed by the Supervisor • Required and Preferred Education • Formal Schooling and Academic Degrees • Formal Training or Course Work • Specific Training or Learning on the Job • Required Experience • Specific Terms of Months or Years Required for the Average Person to Obtain a Satisfactory Level of Performance on the Job • Knowledge of • Principals or Facts Required • Ability to • Manual Skills, Language Ability, Reasoning, Interpersonal Skills • Licensing / Certifications • Required Federal, State, Technical, or Professional Licenses

  12. Instructions for Completing e-PDQ • The e-PDQwill come to supervisors as an e-mail attachment • PC users need access to Microsoft Excel software. MAC users need access to MS Excel for MAC. • Complete a copy of the e-PDQ for each job (not necessarily by position) • Save e-PDQ to your computer in some location familiar to you • In order for the e-PDQ to function properly, macro security in Excel must be set to “Low.” • The e-PDQ presents a series of tabbed sections that appear sequentially • Save information periodically • May be convenient to use a previously completed e-PDQas a template for another similar job • The completed e-PDQ should be e-mailed back by March 10, 2012 to Classification Committee Member that sent you the list of jobs to complete.
