  2. MLA P. 115-122: The Format of Research Paper

  3. Paper Size • 1) letter size: 8½-by-11 inch • 2) No greater than 6½-by-9 inch (A4 paper)

  4. Margins • Standard: 1 inch at the top and bottom and on both sides • Also accepted: the default format of Microsoft Word processor for A4 size

  5. Text Formatting • Typeface: Times New Roman • size: 12 points • Do not justify the lines of text at the right margin • Turn off the automatic hyphenation feature • Leave one space after a period or other concluding punctuation mark • One side print • 1.5 line space (as ruled in 學生手冊)

  6. Capitalization of your title • See MLA 3.6.1 • Basic rules • The usage of colon

  7. Place for Page Numbers • The upper right-hand corner, one-half inch from the tip and flush with the right margin • (its format will be for quiz)

  8. Quiz: Do you need a title paper for your research paper? ---No. ---Use the headings on the first page to put the essential information

  9. Quiz: Where is the place on the first page to put your headings? Beginning on the top of your paper and flush with the left margin

  10. Quiz: What are the items to list for your headings? Your name Your instructor’s name The course number (the course title) The date

  11. Quiz: Do you need extra line space between headings and the title of the paper ? No!

  12. Quiz: Where is the place to put the title (to flush with the left, the right or to center it)? You need to center the title

  13. Quiz: What is the space for indention at the beginning of a paragraph? One-half inch (5 spaces)

  14. Quiz: What is the text format for your page numbers ---Your last name and leave a space before the page number ---No other punctuation is needed in between
