  1. THUNDERBOLT a revolutionary I/O technology

  2. WHO’S GETTING INVOLVED? • 2712100108 CAESARIO • 2712100115 GHAFAR • 2712100129 MARVIN • 2712100136 DIKSI

  3. WHAT IS THUNDERBOLT? • Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices through a single, compact port. • Thunderbolt equipped with two nonstop lanes; PCI Express (data) and DisplayPort (video). Through one compact cable, you can connect high-performance data devices to high-resolution displays. It sets the new standard for speed and performance.

  4. TECHNOLOGY • Thunderbolt technology combines PCI Express and DisplayPort* I/O protocols onto a single highly-efficient metaprotocol. Single cable transmission along with traffic routing management

  5. Thunderbolt was developed by : • Intel with technical collaboration from Apple. using the same Apple-developed connector as Mini DisplayPort, which is electrically identical toDisplayPort, but uses a smaller, non-locking connector. • Though the Thunderbolt trademark was registered by Apple, full rights belong to Intel which subsequently led to the transfer of the registration from Apple to Intel.

  6. HISTORY OF THUNDERBOLT

  7. Thunderbolt link connections

  8. General specifications

  9. ADVANTAGES • Thunderbolt I/O technology gives you two channels on the same connector with 10 Gbps of throughput in both directions. That makes Thunderbolt ultrafast and ultraflexible.

  10. ADVANTAGES • High performance on display: Thunderbolt I/O technology provides native support for the DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, and VGA displays through the use of existing adapter.s

  11. ADVANTAGES • One small port. One giant leap in possibilities. • You can connect external devices like RAID arrays and video capture solutions directly to your Computer and get PCI Express performance. That’s a first for any computer. • Thunderbolt also provides 10 watts of power to peripherals, so you can tackle workstation-class projects. With PCI Express technology, you can use existing USB and FireWire peripherals even connect to Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel networks using simple adapters.

  12. ADVANTAGES • Thunderbolt I/O technology allows you to daisy-chain up to six Thunderbolt peripherals. With no decreases speed. Unlike with USB, where connecting multiple device can affect the performance of the entire USB bus. • Thunderbolt provides 10 watts of power to peripherals, so you can tackle workstation-class projects

  13. PERIPHERALS • Thunderbolt-ready devices : Display: Apple Thunderbolt Display

  14. PERIPHERALS • Thunderbolt-ready devices : Storage -Promise Pegasus R4 and Pegasus R6 -LaCie Little Big Disk and 2big -Seagate GoFlexThunderbolt Adapter -ElgatoThunderbolt SSD

  15. PERIPHERALS • Thunderbolt-ready devices Video Camera -BlackmagicCinema Camera Video Capture -AJA Io XT -BlackmagicUltraStudio 3D, Intensity Extreme, and Intensity Shuttle -Matrox MX02

  16. THE CONCLUSION • In the future, thunderbolt technology will be on all devices. Because it sets new standards for speed, flexibility, and simplicity. With 10 Gbps of throughput in both direction. You can move data to and from peripherals up to 20 times faster than with USB 2.0 and up to 12 times faster than with FireWire 800.
