  2. Birth-1806. • Juarez was born on March 21, 1806. • Juarez was born in the village of San Pablo Guelatao. • March 21st is a Nation Holiday in Mexico to celebrate Juarez.

  3. San Pablo Guelatao , Oaxaca This is the village Benito Juarez was born in. The mountains in the back are named Sierra Juárez.

  4. Childhood-1809 Juarez’s parents, MarcelinoJuárez and BrígidaGarcía, were peasants. They died when Juarez was three years old in 1809. When his parents died, he and his sister (Rosa) were cared for by thier grandfather, Pedro Juarez, and grandmother, JustaLopez, who were Zapotec Indians that lived in the Zapotec Nation.

  5. Childhood This is Monte Alban. It is the capital city of the Zapotec Nation. Juarez lived here with his grandparents.

  6. December 17, 1818 When Juarez was 12, he ran away from his house and fled on foot to the city of Oaxaca. He lodged in the house of Don Antonio Maza, where his sister, MarίaJosėfa, was working as a cook.

  7. Don Antonio Maza Pictured is Don Antonio Maza. She employed Juarez’s sister and allowed him to lodge in his house.
