  3. 1. Delenie - Gitara • Poväčšinou6 strunová gitara, štandardne ladenie strun je E3A3D4G4B4E5(eng.)/eHGDAE(sk.) • Existujúju aj gitary stavané pre iné frekvenčné rozpätie – baritńovénapríklad,dalšímibežnými prvkami sú bez pražcové gitary, gitary so skalopedmi na hmatníku, gitary s rasonetmi

Delenie - Gitara • Dnes už tiež bežné záležosti sú dvoj/troj...krké gitary každý krk má gitara na inú farbu tónu, ktorá je spôsobená napr. iným počtom strún (bežné 12), inou polohou a kombináciou snímačov, opražcovaním. • V súčasnosti sa dostávaju do popredia 7 strunové gitary, za posledný rok už aj 8. Všetky tieto neštandardné typy vznikajú v súcasnostipoväčšinou na elektrických gitarách.

Delenie – Akustická gitara • V súčasnosti je populárna Elektro-akustická gitara je to akustická gitara snímaná či už piezosnímačom v kobylke alebo mikrofónom vo vnútri ozvučnice alebo kombináciiou týchto snímaní • Klasickágitara, zvaná „španielka“ (najpodstatnejší rozdiel : nylonové struny) • Jumboa jeho rôzne variácie, zvané „akustika“ (má kovové struny)

Delenie – Elektrická gitara • V súčasnosti asi najpoplárnejšia, najbežnejšie analógové typy snímánia sú elektromagnetické snímače: jedno/dvoj-cievky po anglicky single coil/humbucker. • Markantný rozdiel vo zvuku . Priblížene single coilje dynamickejší, rýchlejší, viac šumí/brumí, má jasnejší zvuk, viac atribútu ako Presence, ktorý je najmä o výškach a kus o stredoch. Humbucker je takmerbez šumu, má hutnejší zvuk v basoch, silnejší výstupový signál.
