  1. Unit 3 – Animal Anatomy & Physiology Looking Inside the Beast!

  2. UNIT 3 – Animal Systems: • EVALUATION: • Quiz 1 [/10] (Knowledge) • Quiz 2 [/10] (Knowledge) • Effects of Exercise Lab [/15] (Inq. / Comm.) • Fetal Pig Dissection [/25] (Inq. / Comm.) • TEST [/50] (Knowledge) • TEST [/10] (MakeConn.)

  3. Internal Organs & Organ Systems

  4. Tissues: • cells similar in shape and function that work together 4 Types: • Epithelial • Muscle • Connective • Nervous

  5. Organ: • groups of tissues that work together to carry out a particular function Organ system: • a group of organs that have related functions • Eg: digestive system – esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and other associated organs, the liver and pancreas

  6. Monitoring Organs: X-rays: • high-energy electromagnetic waves absorbed by bone (can also be used with metallic compound to examine internal organs)

  7. CT Scan (“Cat Scan”): • many x-rays are taken to reconstruct a 3-D image

  8. Nuclear Imaging: • radioactive dye is injected & travels to target organs to allow detailed image of its function

  9. MRI: • Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses magnetic forces and radio waves to provide information (very useful for soft tissues)

  10. The End!!!
