  2. Christmas is the main Festivity of the year; we can better define it as a period of a series of celebrations starting from the winter solstice until Epiphany. In the folk tradition it was linked to the closure of a seasonal cycle and the opening of the new cycle. The festivity belongs to the Christian liturgical year, which commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, which, in Western Christianity, falls on December 25, while in Eastern Christianity is celebrated on January 6.
