Goals • Create a system that provides maximum fire protection to all Stamford residents • Extend consistent, standard-based fire service City-wide • Unify the Volunteer Fire Departments as one organization with consistent standards, policies and procedures • Minimize cost to tax payers • Varied individual interests replaced by one common interest

  3. The Resolution: Create a single, unified volunteer fire force… The Stamford Volunteer Fire Department

  4. The Approach • Merge resources from Belltown, TOR, Long Ridge and Springdale Fire Depts. Into the Stamford Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) • Organize the City’s volunteer fire services under a single line of command • Capitalizeon combined facilities, resources, paid and volunteer personnel • Redefine Fire Protection Coverage Area formerly covered by Belltown, TOR, Long Ridge & Springdale Depts. • Create Stamford Fire Taxing District (SFTD) and a service contract between it and the SVFD.

The Benefits: A Safer City • Establishes clear command structure and lines of authority • Assures optimum fire protection service to all residents • Consistent Training and Standards • Consistent operations • More efficient structure and operations • Purchasing, Recruiting, Training, Management, Delivery of Service • Promotes fiscal control • Self-sustaining operations and capital resources for volunteers • Critical mass contributes to overall efficiencies

  10. Action Items Board of Representatives • Re-draw/Redefine Stamford Fire Districts by using current Long Ridge District as corporate structure • Create Fire Taxing District

Action Items Long Ridge Fire Department • File name change w/Secretary of State • File trade name certificates w/City & Town Clerk (for Long Ridge Fire Dept.) • Revise By-laws to include current directors from TOR, Springdale and Belltown Fire houses • Enter agreement w/Stamford Fire Taxing Dist. to provide fire services • Hire paid personnel (Volunteer Fire Department is encourage to reach out to Stamford Fire Rescue for staffing needs). • Recruit additional volunteers

  12. Action Items Glenbrook Volunteer Fire Department • Operations continue under current agreements

  13. Action Items TOR, Springdale and Bellown Fire Houses • Attend to corp. affairs to conform with new consolidated volunteer fire company
