  2. What is the SAT? The SAT I is a standardized examination designed to measure students’ abilities in three areas: reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning. Many American colleges and universities, including the most prestigious, consider SAT scores an important factor in judging the quality of applicants. American schools care about SATs because it provides a level playing field for applicants to demonstrate their abilities. The SAT is 3 hours and 45 minutes long. It is composed of 10 sections. To register go to the College Board website at collegeboard.org

  3. The ACT test— Previously known as ‘American College Testing’ is a college admissions and placement test taken by more than 1.6 million high school graduates every year. To register, go to act.org

Max Bressler School of Advanced Hebrew Studies • …Provides all undergraduates of HTC with a broad base of knowledge in: • Classic Hebraic language and literature • Bible, Jewish history • Jewish philosophy • Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts in Judaic Studies must complete an Advanced Hebrew Studies Core by completing coursework within the Max Bressler School of Advanced Hebrew Studies (see specific requirements for the B.A. in Judaic Studies). The Bressler School in conjunction with the Department of Education provides a program for Hebrew teacher certification, which is an option to students who aspire to careers in Jewish education. • Bachelor of Arts • combines intensive study in a major field of study with a required general education component that consists of comprehensive core curricula in; • Advanced Hebrew Studies: Bible, Hebrew • Jewish History • Jewish Law (Jewish Philosophy) • Liberal Arts • Sciences

  9. Applying Online to Ontario’s Universities OUAC 101 Online Application for Ontario Secondary School Students www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-101/

Step 1: Your OUAC Access Codes Your guidance counsellor will give you aconfidential letter containing your access codes: • PIN (Personal ID#) • School Number • Student Number These numbers will allow you to access your OUAC 101 Online Application. Your PIN is confidential! Don’t share it with anyone else.

  11. Step 2: Research Your University Options • Visit eINFO (www.electronicinfo.ca) to see what each university has to offer. Read the eINFObulletin. • Read the OUAC 101Instruction Bookletas well as the 101 Addenda (both available at www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-101/) to get the most up-to-date program information. • Check out university publications, websites and tours. • Talk to counsellors, family, teachers and friends. • Write down your program choices andcodes, and keep them handy. You can use the FastTrackoption to add program choices to your application using the OUAC program code.

  12. Step 3: Mark Your Calendar October/November 2013: Schools distribute Access Code Letters for the OUAC 101 Online Application. November 8, 2013 Target date for the OUAC to receive all electronic student data files from Ontario secondary schools. January 15, 2014: Latest date to submit completed online applications to the OUAC. February 4, 2014: Recommended last day to make changes to your application. May 29, 2014: Date by which the universities must respond to your application for admission. June 2, 2014: Earliest date by which the universities may require a response to offers of admission and a financial commitment.

  13. Paying for Your Application • Fees • Summary of Fees • All fees are non-refundable. Your application will not be forwarded to your university choice(s) until you submit full payment to the OUAC. Fees for withdrawn university choices are not refunded. • All fees are listed in Canadian dollars. • Base Application Fee: $130For the initial three university/program choices. • International Service Fee: $10If the mailing address is outside of Canada. • Additional Choice Fee: $44/choiceFor each university/program choice beyond the initial three (e.g., if two additional university choices are added, you must pay $88 in addition to the base application fee). • Note: You may apply to as many Ontario universities/programs as you wish; however, you are limited to a maximum of three program choices at any one university (including affiliates). Some universities may further limit the number of programs to which you may apply.

  14. Paying for Your Application You have the following three options: • VISA/MasterCard/American Express:You will need the card number, expiry date and the cardholder’s name. • Online/Telephone Banking:You will receive a bill payment account numberfrom the OUAC as soon as you submit your application. • Cheque/Money Order: You must send the cheque or money order by mail within two weeks of submitting your online application.

  15. The Final Steps Once you’ve selected your programs, you’re ready to prepare and submit your application following these six steps below: 1. Review the programs that you have selected. 3. & 4. Your school may have already provided much of this data. Check it for accuracy and make changes where necessary. 5. The universities require you to answer nine questions. (Don’t worry – they’re easy!) 2. Number your choices in order of preference. This doesn’t affect admission or scholarships unless the university specifies this in their literature. 6. Review and report errors to your guidance office.

  16. College After February 1st, applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis, providing there are still vacancies in the program(s) of your choice.

  18. College Application Equal Consideration Date After February 1st, applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis, providing there are still vacancies in the program(s) of your choice.

Ontario College Highly Competitive Programs • Some programs offered by Ontario colleges may be highly competitive; a program for which the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of seats available for the fall start date. • For these programs you MUST apply before the February 1, 2013 equal consideration date.

  20. Important Dates for College Programs Beginning Fall 2014 October 2013 • Access to the online college application at ontariocolleges.ca November 25, 2013 First date that 2014/2015 application data will be sent to colleges. • Earliest date that colleges may acknowledge applications.

This is not a deadline for submitting applications. After this date, applications are still processed, but are considered by the colleges on a first-come, first-served basis. May 1 , 2 0 1 4 Applicants must confirm their acceptance of an offer of admission to their chosen program through ontariocolleges.ca by this date. Each college will determine the due date to confirm offers made after May 1, 2014. Check your offer letter for details.
