  1. BUILD IT UP ` (21/22 June)

  2. Objective • Each group to build one car • Timothy Club : 10 groups will compete • Barnabas Club: All groups will compete

  3. Leaders Roles • Ensure Safety • Delegate Task • Keep Track of the Time • Encourage Participation

  4. Building the race cars: • Body: • Milk carton • Empty tissue box • 500ml or 1.5L plastic bottles • Axles and Wheels: • Satay sticks(provided by GKidz) • Straws (provided by GKidz) • Bottle caps • Raffia Strings – Timothy Club (provided by GKidz) • Sails – Barnabas Club: • plastic bags • newspapers

  5. To make the wheels, firstly, use a screwdriver to puncture the bottle caps

  6. Use a scissors to cut the straw, shorter than the width of the car body

  7. Insert a satay stick into the punctured bottle cap, then insert the cut straw into it

  8. Insert another punctured bottle cap at the other end

  9. Using a scotch tape, secure the axles and wheels onto the body of the car. • Cut away the excess satay stick

  10. Timothy Club Cut a raffia string long enough for a child to pull. Use scotch tape to stick it onto the car

  11. Barnabas Club • To make the sail, cut a plastic bag into a square-shaped sheet • Pierce the plastic sheet with satay sticks (cut the length accordingly) • Poke the sticks through it as shown in the figure below (Rag cloth is • used as an example). Front view Back view

  12. Insert a satay stick through the middle of the sail (as shown in the pictures below) • Insert the sails to the middle part of the car’s body. Ensure it pierces all the way • through. Secure the bottom of the sails onto the body with tape to ensure it does • not turn to the left or right while fanning. Add a few decorations to impress the • judges and the car is ready for racing. Racing • -Each group to send one (Timothy Club) or two (Barnabas Club) representative(s) to pull/fan the car. • -Barnabas Club Only: The group member can tag his/her group mates to continue fanning whenever he/she feels tired. • The time taken to complete the track will be measured by the • referee using stopwatches
