This draft discusses improvements to the bulk re-registration process in Mobile IP, detailing enhancements such as the number of transactions based on multiple Mobile Access Gateways (MAGs) and revisions to the Mobile Node Group Identifier. It also addresses integration with Mohana Jeyatharan’s work on Bitmap mechanisms for bulk operations, highlighting the need for distinct identifier types within policy frameworks. The draft aims to solicit feedback and engage the working group in refining these proposals for better operational efficiency.

Bulk Re-registration forProxy Mobile IPv6 draft-ietf-netext-bulk-re-registration-00 Fuad Abinader, Sri Gundavelli, Kent Leung, Suresh Krishnan, Domagoj Premec IETF #77, NetExt WG 1
Baseline document • I-D draft-premec-netlmm-bulk-re-registration-03 accepted as NetExt WG item • Typos fixed; A few improvements, e.g. • # of transactions dependent on # of MAGs • 1 MAG <-> 1 LMA for a given bulk re-registration set • MN Group Identifier description and usage scenarios • Removed unused “Reserved” field description • Sub-type field (from MN Group Identifier field) now managed by IANA • Fuad Abinader as I-D editor
MN-ID • I-D: draft-perkins-mext-4283mnids • Proposes additional Identifier Types for the Mobile Node Identifier Option (RFC 4283) • At IETF 76, it was asked that it be merged with this I-D; agreed to take discussions to the mailing list, but there has been no follow-up discussion • As we can have different sets of IDs depending on policy, we consider this to be a totally different subject
Use of Bitmaps • Mohana Jeyatharan’s I-D on Bulk PBU (draft-jeyatharan-netext-pmip-bulkpbu-bitmap) proposes a group bulk operation • Based on redundant fields suppression using bitmaps • Proposes coexistence of group operations with single MN operations • Proposes bulk operations for other scenarios that this I-D does not cover • Relies heavily on “simultaneous” requests, while our I-D proposal does not rely on that
Next steps • Request reviews and input to improve the document and prepare for WG LC
