Written Expression Directions • You are going to write a story. First, you will read a sentence, and then you will write a story about what happens next. You will have 1 minute to think about what you will write, and 3 minutes to write your story. Remember to do your best work. If you don’t know how to spell a word, you should guess. If you have any questions about the directions, ask your teacher now.
Things you need! • Story starter • Lined paper • A pen or pencil • A stopwatch
One minute think about… • For one minute, think about the following story starter: “I couldn’t fall asleep in my tent. I heard this noise outside and …” • Use the timer on the next slide to time one minute!

Three minute write • Now you will write about the story starter for three minutes. • Write the best story you can. • Use the timer on the next slide to time three minutes. • You should be writing about “I couldn’t fall asleep in my tent. I heard this noise outside and …” • When the timer stops, put your pencil down.
