  3. Utah’s NEA Representative Assembly (RA) Delegation The 2010 Census shows Utah has a 20 percent ethnic population RA Ethnic Minority Goal: 20 percent of our attending delegates are ethnic minority RA Ethnic Minority Attendance: 6 to 14 percent of our attending delegates ?? Can we do better??

  4. In addition to trying to achieve the numerical goal … …We must remember that our most importantgoal is to recognize our responsibility for the meaningful involvement of ethnic minority members.

  8. Publicity Communications via postal mail, email and website myUEA.org/MIP MIP presentation at CLP meeting MIP presentation to local presidents

  9. State and Local Coordination UEA officers contact locals Each local asked to present MIP to ARs UEA financial assistance to send ethnic minority delegate to the RA Locals commit to “Minority Involvement Pledge”

  10. Policies Ethnic Minority Director seat on the UEA Board of Directors Ethnic Minority members appointed to task forces Ethnic Minority Director reports progress of MIP Plan NEA Minority Leadership Training Program (MLTP)

  11. Activities UEA provides “scholarships” to attend trainings to further the MIP goals Use myUEA.org/MIP to promote MIP Recruit ethnic minority candidates for Association offices

  12. Activities (continued) Minority Involvement Pledge Locals are asked to sign the pledge “How to Run for Association Office” pamphlet Information on how to file and campaign for Association positions
