Join us for an immersive experience based on the Siege and Relief of Mafeking during the Second Boer War. Boy Scouts and Webelos Scouts will play different roles and participate in missions to gather intelligence data. Pre-registration is strongly recommended.

Background Col Baden-Powell sent to Mafeking, South Africa in 1899 to establish 2 regiments of Mounted Rifles Second Boer War erupted three months later Mafeking cut off and laid to siege for 217 days before relief arrived During the siege, Col Baden-Powell organized the Mafeking Cadet Corps to assist the troops Success of cadets one of many factors leading to his establishment of Scouting movement in later life 1/1/2020 3

Camporee Objective Provide an immersive experience based on the Siege and Relief of Mafeking Boy Scouts will play the role of British Forward Scouts Mission: Provide valuable reconnaissance data for Lord Roberts, commander of the British relief force. Webelos Scouts will have a program similar. 1/1/2020 4

Mission Overview • Scouts & Webelos will be organized in patrols, led by a single patrol leader, and consist of trained specialists • Navigators • Medics • Field Engineers (Pioneering experts) • Naturalists • Each patrol will be supplied with a map and orders and be required to navigate between field exercises while scouting enemy positions and gathering intelligence data • Patrols will carry all personal gear, patrol gear, and food for the day’s mission. List of required patrol gear will be supplied in Troop Orders • Field guides will provide historical context briefings, instructional training

Mission Timeline • 6 Nov Friday • 4:00 – 8:00 PM Troops arrive on-site and pitch camp Units check in, make payments, receive campsite assignments • 8:30 PM Mission Briefing - Lord Roberts • 7 Nov Saturday • 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM Mission Execution • 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM Free time, Chow, Joviality (for Survivors) • 7:00 PM Meritorious Evening Campfire of Skits & Songs Debrief by Lord Roberts • 8 Nov Sunday • 8:00 AM Scout’s Own Service • 8:30 AM Great Sunday Morning Rocket Launch • 10:00 AM Mafeking site closed

Staff Officers/Field Guides Needed Staff Officers and assistants needed for mission planning, field preparation, staff support, and to conduct field exercises Field Guides needed to provide mission safety, historical briefings, and instructional training Mission is complex, a large staff is needed for success and to minimize tasking on any one individual 1/1/2020 8

Pre-Registration / Payment Pre-registration is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED this can be done by going online to www.talakto.org clicking onto menu bar “Training” then click onto the drop down “TORS” Talakto Online Registration. Follow instructions, if you have never used this you will have to create an account (VERY SIMPLE) PAYMENT: All attendees must make their payments at check-in. Payment must be cash or check NO Credit Cards or Debit Cards. Campsite assignments will also be made at this time. Sept 7th. • Campfires TBD; Leave No Trace strictly enforced • Check in begins at 4pm make payment, receive camp site location. • Must obtain final site inspection prior to departure • Location: Camp Westmoreland • Sunday: Scouts Service, Great Rocket Launch / followed by Awards • QUESTIONS??
