  2. Generalist Practice Behavior 1.1. Advocate for client access to the services of social work • Earlier this week, I met a representative from the Golden Hearts Social Club. We talked about my internship and she informed me how her club conducts fundraisers and uses the proceeds to hand out school supplies to underprivileged students. I put her in contact with Ms. Rita Elliot, who is head of the Homelessness Task Force for the Cumberland County School District

Generalist Practice Behavior 1.2 Practice personal reflection and self-correction to assure continual professional development • To effectively practice this behavior, I will remain cognizant of my actions when interacting with my co-workers and clients. • I will also openly reflect with myself and my supervisor about how certain situations were handled and discuss any improvements that are needed for the future.

Generalist Practice Behavior 1.3 Attend to professional roles and boundaries • By adhering to my agency’s rules and regulations, I will ensure I do not overstep my role as an intern. • By staying in constant communication with my supervisor as to how much independence and access I am authorized during my placement.

  5. Generalist Practice Behavior 1.4 Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior, appearance, and communication • I contacted my field supervisor to check with the dress code at the school to ensure my attire is within the guidelines set forth. • While working in a school setting with elementary students, it is important to maintain clear and concise communication skills.

  6. Generalist Practice Behavior 1.5 Engage in career-long learning • In order to practice this behavior, I must stay abreast of changing social work policies and practices, pursue a Masters of Social Work degree, and constantly refer to the Social Worker’s Code of Ethics when faced with an ethical dilemma.

  7. Generalist Practice Behavior 1.6 Use supervision and consultation • By meeting weekly with my supervisor and reviewing the pros and cons of the week, I will ensure that my mission within the agency is clearly understood. • I will consult with my supervisor frequently regarding any issues or concerns I have performing my daily duties.
